What makes 75% of food and beverage manufacturers optimistic about smart manufacturing?

Food and beverage manufacturers face many challenges. COVID-19 exacerbated pre-existing labor shortages and supply chain disruptions. This limited access to raw materials, shifted demand between foodservice and retail, increased food safety regulatory requirements, and applied pricing and margin pressure.

This study from Plex Systems, a Rockwell Automation company, in collaboration with Hanover Research, surveyed 321 global manufacturers who communicated the need for agility, technology adoption, and improved processes to respond to market adversity. Report highlights include:

  • Smart manufacturing adoption rates increased 15% over twelve months, lagging behind all other industries, but there is room for optimism.
  • 70% of food and beverage manufacturers expressed interest in or are actively evaluating solutions for adoption.
  • 52% of food and beverage respondents are “very” or “extremely” interested in supply chain planning solutions with machine learning/AI.
